It's been delightful watching the bumblebees, butterflies and humming birds buzzing around our flowerbeds in the morning. I can see where the term "busy bees" must have come from!
When people ask us, "What have you guys been up to lately? Have you been busy?" On the inside, I feel like my jaw drops before I get to answer and I want to say, "You have no idea!"
It's funny how many people think since we are in music ministry, we have nothing to do but just sit around worshiping the Lord and playing music by day, then sing in churches and conferences by night. The reality is that our lives have always been very eventful on the road as well as at home. Like many of you, every day seems to collide with the nemesis "TO DO" list that never ends.
We have never in all of our lives understood the word "bored." Our time has always been FILLED with mucho activity, such as raising kids, traveling to minister, writing & study, phone calls, managing the business side of our ministry with a minimal staff, prayer, keeping the home fires burning (e.g., grocery shopping, laundry, cleaning), visiting/helping family and friends, etc., etc. Life for us has always been, well... BUSY!
We are so grateful to God for His grace in all of this, but to be honest there have been many frustrating times where we've re-evaluated our busyness and just felt like we were stuck not emphasizing things that we should.
I think a lot of people battle with this frustration. It seems that life will try it's best to keep us all really active, but maybe not engaged in the most important things.
As believers we realize THE most important thing in our lives is seeking first the Kingdom of God. Jesus boldly proclaimed in Matthew 6:33, Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need. (NLT)
Nothing should take the place of this, no matter what is going on in our lives. We've learned that when this area gets out of balance, so does everything else.
So why is it that many of us are always working, and yet can't figure out why we're not getting more accomplished? I recently ran across a quote that stirred my heart and challenged me in this area!
Don't mistake movement for achievement. It's easy to get faked out
by being busy. The question is: Busy Doing What? ~ Jim Rohn
We have recently asked ourselves this hard question, "Busy Doing What?" We realized that we were very full-on, but not engaged in some of the most crucial things we should be doing, like writing new songs!
However, we are excited to say that we made adjustments, gotten in gear and are working very hard writing many new songs that have been patiently waiting for us to give them our attention!
In fact as soon as we are done writing these heartfelt thoughts to you, we will GET BUSY finishing these songs. Then later this month we plan to be in the recording studio preparing to release a new CD. Yay!!
Thank you for your continued prayers and support of our endeavors. We know we must continue taking time to dig out not only the songs that are still in us, but also the books, teachings and videos God has placed on the inside of us.
Proverbs 20:5 says, The purposes of a person's heart are deep waters,
but one who has insight draws them out. (NIV)
We know that God has also placed purposes deep in your heart that you desire to accomplish. We also know how distracting life can be and how easily time can get taken from us. A friend of our put it this way, What you are doing may not be wrong but it may be worthless (worth less than other things). Don't exchange the good for the best.
Evidently even Jesus had opportunity to get distracted when He stated in Luke 24:9, Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?
Our prayer for you this month is that you will be able to keep the most important things first in your life, and that you will have the wisdom and insight to draw out of your heart the eternal purposes of God.
With God's help and grace, together we will all reach the full potential He has hidden in our hearts and work hard doing the things that He wants us all to do.
Busy about our Father's business,
