The power contained in the Word of God is indescribable and uncontainable! He created everything in the universe by speaking His Word. And when we sing songs that are full of God’s Word or scripturally based, it releases power, strength, joy, and peace – whatever it is that we need in our lives.
Some have wondered if it really matters what music we listen to. YES it does, especially if you are walking through a valley or a dark place in your life. Words that we hear go deep into our spirits and create either negative or positive direction in our lives. The lyrics in music also become a tool to shape our theology – what we believe about God. We’re not saying you should ONLY listen to Christian music, but whatever we listen to should be positive and uplifting. Unfortunately, even many popular Christian songs receiving airplay today (not ALL, thank God) are written from people’s experiences or a tweaked concept of God’s character and not based on what His Word says. This can bring confusion to peoples’ hearts and produce bad fruit in their lives. In light of this, let’s keep God’s Word alive in our hearts through good, positive, scriptural songs.
Psalm 59:16 (NIV) says, But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love. Even as I woke up this morning I had a song on my heart, filled with God’s Word that kept going over and over in my mind, and brought great refreshing and encouragement to me all morning. That’s the power of the Word in song.
One of the first scriptures that God spoke to us when we started our ministry was Colossians 3:16, Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. We were drawn to the fact that you can teach the Word through songs and change a person’s life!
So for over 30 years now we have endeavored to write music that helps carry the word of God into peoples’ hearts, affecting the course of their lives forever. Psalm 119:54 (NIV) Your decrees (Words) are the theme of my song wherever I lodge.
Songwriting Update
Thank you for your prayers, encouragement and support last month in our song writing endeavors. We began to further develop many song ideas that have been awaiting our attention and also start some new ones. Just like several of our earlier songs have been a huge help in peoples’ lives around the world, we trust that these upcoming “songs of deliverance” will also be avenues of God’s grace, to bring strength, inspiration and refreshing to the listeners. Psalm 32:7 (NKJV) You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah
