After over 30 years of full-time ministry we always look forward to opportunities of sharing our experiences and lessons learned, with hopes of helping people run their race well and win in life.
In Hebrews 12:1-3 the writer says:
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us
throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And
let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our
eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith…
What a powerful scripture with so many lessons to learn from it.
Each one of us has a race to run in this life and a responsibility to God, to ourselves, our families and the next generation to run it and win it. “In It to Win It,” as we heard Randy Jackson say so often.
But here’s the problem: Many get on the wrong track to begin with, and others start well then get knocked off the track.
Paul asked this question in Galatians 5:7, You were running the race so well. Who has held you back from following the truth?
Through the years we’ve observed many precious people who have gotten off track through various disappointments and painful encounters.
Life is FULL of unexpected speed bumps, difficulties and tough situations. But hold this in your heart: Keep your eyes on Jesus, follow His examples, and you will finish strong. Then you can say like the Apostle Paul,
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
2 Timothy 4:7
Jesus said, Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. (John 16:13 NLT).
The bottom line is: STUFF Happens, and will continue trying to get you off course as long as you live on this earth. It’s only when we get to the other side (in Heaven) that we will have no more sorrow, pain or struggles. (Revelation 21:4)
Until then, through God’s grace and strength, we MUST live smart, wide awake and learn how to handle what life throws at us.
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him and be strong in your faith.
1 Peter 5:8-9
The popular Christian acronym WWJD ~ What Would Jesus Do, is actually what we should ask ourselves when confronted with various issues in life. But the only place to see WWJD is in His Word. So how about another acronym: WDJS ~ What Does Jesus Say. Once we know what Jesus says (which we find in the Bible), then we’ll know what He would do!
