The song, A Bruised Reed, was written from a beloved scripture found in Isaiah 42:3, and here it is in the New Living Translation:
He will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering candle.
He will bring justice to all who have been wronged.
This passage was a huge turning point in our own grief journey, and the Lord brought it to us at a very dark time, not long after our son passed away, when our “candles” were just barely flickering. But the entrance of His word gives light (Psalm 119:130), and boy did we need it!
For the months and years following, our merciful Father continued wrapping us in His love and compassion when we were so bruised and broken, even finding ourselves struggling with the pain of loss once again, over and over. We are SO grateful for His never-ceasing mercy and grace toward us, bringing us to a better place as we were ready.
Not long ago, we read this same passage from Isaiah in The Passion Translation, which takes it to another whole level of encouragement for those who are struggling:
He would never crush a broken heart nor disregard the weak and vulnerable.
He will make sure justice comes to those who are wronged.
Wow! Thank you, Lord!! So powerful!!
If you are in this place of struggling with hardship or loss, we pray you will sense the God of All Comfort holding you, carrying you, and fighting for you. His compassion for you is immeasurable!
