Recently I came across several scriptures telling how God chose us and called us out of darkness. While I was meditating on these amazing truths, the Lord turned it around on ME and said:
I chose you, but YOUR CHOICES today will determine your future.
O Man! Although I was basking in His love and grace of choosing me, He stirred my thinking to realize I have an important responsibility as a chosen one to Make Good (GOD) Choices!
Choices are so powerful. They can bring you freedom or land you in prison. They can set in motion your entire future for good or bad and determine your destiny.
I may be over simplifying this, but really every moment, every hour, every day, every year we make choices that will make us or break us.
I love the moment in scripture when Moses stood before Israel and challenged them saying:
I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life … Deuteronomy 30:19
It was a choice they had to make and no one could make it for them. And the same goes for us!
We make choices every day. Some choices we make add life and others take life away. We choose what we allow into our hearts, what we see, what we listen to, read, say, do, what we eat, and the list goes on. And every decision or choice we make has an effect on our lives.
One of my favorite scriptures is when Jesus responded to Martha saying: … Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her. Luke 10:42
What was it that Mary chose? To sit at the feet of Jesus and hear His Words. She could have chosen to run around and be busy like her sister Martha, but instead she made the most important and valuable choice: Sitting and listening to Jesus!!
What’s so beautiful is that the Holy Spirit will help us make good choices in everything! He’s The HELPER.
With His help we can:
Choose to be positive in negative situations
Choose to be kind when we are mistreated
Choose to bless when we are cursed
Choose to give when we’ve been taken advantage of
Choose to speak well of someone even when they may have spoken ill of us
Choose to forgive when we’ve been hurt
I’m not saying it’s easy, but it is doable with His Help!
I’m reminded of a scene from the 1989 movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade when the Grail Knight Said “Choose wisely, for while the True Grail will bring you life, the False Grail will take it from you.” Then the classic line after Indiana Jones chose and drank from one of the many grails… “You have chosen … (pause) … wisely.”
Let’s choose wisely in life and enjoy the many benefits it brings!
