One of my favorite scriptures is John 4:23-24 where Jesus said, But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.
Many thoughts touch me in this passage, but the fact that my Heavenly Father is seeking for us to worship Him really touches me deeply!
I think about how much I love my kids and grandkids and how much I desire closeness with them. I think about how much joy they bring me just watching them and being close to them.
This is what Jesus is telling us about the love of His Father towards us. He desires to fellowship with us and to be an integral part of our lives. We are His children and He takes joy in watching us and spending time with us just like we do with our kids. He delights in His children just like we delight in ours. He loves us and seeks to spend more intimate time with us.
The psalmist David wrote in Psalms 27:8, When You said “Seek My Face,” my heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.” God is longing for us to seek His face and spend time with Him. What a truly awesome invitation!
The Cry Of God’s Heart
I weep often when I read the account in Genesis where Adam and Eve broke God’s heart.
Genesis 3:8-9, When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees. Then the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
That’s the cry of a loving father to his children “Where are You?” To the very crown of His creation the Lord called out, but yet they were hiding from Him because of sin and shame.
Yet He didn’t stop there.
He longed for man’s fellowship so much that He asked His only Son to leave the glory of Heaven, come to this earth and become a man clothed in human flesh. Then Jesus humbled Himself in obedience to His Father and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Why? To totally destroy sin and death and anything that would try to separate us from fellowship with Him.
Romans 8:31, 35 What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love?
Friends, the bottom line is, God loves us and there’s nothing we can do to change it. Even when we blow it and hide from him like Adam and Eve did, He continues to pursue us and woo us until we surrender and turn back to His loving arms. Surely Your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and there is no greater place to be than in the loving arms of God.
Let’s Simply Worship Him
Our Father is seeking worshippers, so let’s be that to Him! Let’s worship Him in spirit and truth and run to Him with open arms instead of running from Him.
