Many years ago when our ministry was still fairly young and fiscally very small, we found ourselves in the middle of an IRS Audit!! Of all people or organizations, they decided to pick on little ol’ US, who hardly had any money to speak of, to try and squeeze a few dollars from!
While driving down to meet with the agent in person, I (Charlie) was battling FEAR and fervently praying before meeting up with this “Goliath,” who was trying very hard to intimidate me, at least in my thoughts!
To my surprise, a song began to roll around inside my heart. The odd thing was, it was MY OWN SONG, “God Is My Refuge.”
In my thoughts I pushed it away saying, “I can’t sing right now –– I have to PRAY and THINK!” Yet it continued, becoming stronger and stronger.
I eventually caught on and realized it was the Lord trying to help me! I thought it strange, though, that He would have me sing one of my own songs TO MYSELF!
So I began to sing it in the car while driving and pondered the scriptures contained in the lyrics. I felt God’s peace washing over me, remembering His goodness and His promises to be with me in trouble. I basically hid myself in Him and let Him fight the battle for me.
Before long I was not only full of His peace, but also His JOY, knowing He would once again show Himself strong on my behalf!
Turns out, as I entered the appointment full of God’s peace and joy, the huffy IRS agent became so flustered at not being able to find things she was looking for, she suddenly ended our meeting together in frustration, to be continued another time.
“Another time” never came, and we received a letter in the mail stating our case was closed and no further investigations were needed! What a great victory we experienced!!
Psalm 32:7 (NKJ)
What a wonderful Savior we have! When you find yourself under attack, don’t try to muscle through on your own –– be sure to hide yourself in the Lord and let Him surround you with His love, His strength, and His SONGS! A song full of the Word of God at the right time can set you free!
The Lord has helped us so many times while listening to anointed songs which have carried us through the most difficult seasons, and I know He will do the same for you!
A very present help in times of trouble.
Psalm 46:1 (NKJ)
This passage has become such a huge part of our lives and ministry, and has also become one of our most-loved songs.
We also like the New Living Translation:
We love that –– “Always Ready to Help”! This is our loving heavenly Father –– always reaching out to us, ready to help us when we need it most! He has been there for us in the good times and the bad, and He is here today, waiting for you.
so He can show you His love and compassion.
Isaiah 30:18 (NLT)
He is waiting for us to come to Him, and come boldly before Him.
Hebrews 4:16 (NKJ)
YES, He has grace to help us in every situation.
So let’s come to Him and hide ourselves in His amazing grace, knowing He will help us every time. Let songs of deliverance surround you and preserve you from trouble. He surely is our Hiding Place!
Hiding in Him,
